Online Community Badge Creation and Activation Process - Khoros
Ready to Create some Cool Badges Easily?
I’m writing this article because for the past 5 years during my day job at as a digital creator, I have been managing the badge creation process for our community users. Of course badges are one part of a solid Gamification Strategy, I have other learning insights on that on this blog.
Create an Excel Workbook spread sheet and first add the available community metrics.
Create a Column for the Badge name, the Metric, the reward type i.e. engagement, release date , badge image url address, and badge description that will be received by each community member. This message copy need to be edited and perfect.

Create your badge Matrix in Adobe Illustrator

In Illustrator each Art Boards (there will be hundreds) should have a base ayer of the primary badge outline or shape
Create a layer Called Icon
Create a Layer called Logo
Create a layer called Level Number
Each Row of Art Boards should be focused on one metric and the should increase from left to right.
Name Each ArtBoard what it’s called in your community.
Once the Badges are completed go to Export for Screens and Export them all to a production folder as PNGs.
Upload these to your .com in an images folder called “community-images” More reliable way to serve up badge image and easier to make a quick change.
Go to you community and Navigate to Users then Badges.
Under the Create Tab select Create in top Right.
Enter Badge Name (Paste from Spreadsheet)
Enter Description (Paste from Spreadsheet)
For Badge Image Choose URL and enter that.
Choose Hide does not promote that behavior and is usually used for Events or Stage badges.
For the Rule Enter the metric (Already decided in Spreadsheet)
Save
Check everything 3 times (Spelling, Badge Image, etc)
Go Live ( This will move this badge to the Manage Tab.
